I’ve started this year with my first presentation on Accessibility, at Bucharest WP Meetup. It was my first presentation at a WordPress event and it was a great experience overall that helped me to gain confidence and to share my knowledge about web accessibility.

The topic was based on the AIR 2024 project – Dance Waterloo – where I was involved as a web designer and web developer, WP Specialist.
The main sections of the presentation:
- Why Accessibility?
- My Story with Accessibility?
- The Workflow: Assessment, Design, Development, Testing, Launching
- Conclusions
- Questions.
The presentation is dedicated to those who want to learn web accessibility but don’t know how to approach it at the beginning of this learning journey. It learns what mindset to adopt throughout a project and provides some basic to-dos and concepts. There are many screenshots from the case study that reflect this process, of course, with the client’s consent. I would have loved to find such case studies when I started learning web accessibility, to help me better understand the mindset and concepts used.
The questions at the end of the presentation covered topics about accessibility fonts, content availability for AI, accessible fonts with diacritics (available for the Romanian language), and more info about the Accessibility Statement.

Before the event, I was scared to death of speaking in front of a group of people. But the reality was that different: I liked the topic and I enjoyed speaking and sharing my passion about building accessible websites. For the first time, I found that speaking to others is a good method to build your confidence in a new domain. Also, I learned how important it is to build awareness for creating more accessible websites.
Here, you can find the slides of the presentation and the resources mentioned for the presentation.
I’d like to continue speaking about accessibility, and I’m looking forward to new opportunities.
