In this article, I am adding new insights I’m learning while attending accessibility meetups, talks, or (online) group discussions. This article will be continuously updated.
- Alt-text on an image link is something that describes the purpose of the link and not the image content (Amber, Live Accessibility Remediation); W3.org Reference
- About opening a new tab link – There is a debate on whether to open it in a new tab or not. People know how to come back if they want to. Let’s make it easier for them to come back and have a normal expected interaction, which is that things don’t open in a new tab. If want to pen in a new tab, mouse and screen-reader users have the option to open in a new window. Give the users a choice for opening the link in a new tab or not. Also, when opening in a new tab, browser back button is not available, which is confusing. (Amber, Live Accessibility Remediation). W3.org Reference

- Sticky header / footer and any other sticky element is a problem for magnification / mobile users, covering the available space – so sticky elements are not best practices for this type of devices. They should be disabled with media query – Source and implementation technique: W3.org.

- If you need a text span to explain the Heading, use it before the heading just if it’s something like Look here, or Something Coming Soon. Use it after the header if you need to explain more about the heading. And don’t use a H4 above the H2 because that would break the hierarchy, use a paragraph span. (Knowbility Dev Course)
- As a general rule, we should give the user as much control as possible, and we should never disable or block their settings from working. For this reason, it’s very important to use a relative unite like rem for typography. Source
